Why Isn't My Website Showing Up on Google?

Your website not appearing on Google, explained — the most common technical and SEO reasons, and what actually fixes it.

If you've searched your own business name and your site isn't appearing, there are usually a handful of specific reasons — and most of them are fixable. Before anything else, check the basics: is the site actually published and live, and has it existed for at least a few weeks? Google needs to find and index a page before it can rank it at all.

The Most Common Reasons a Site Doesn't Appear

  • The site is brand new and hasn't been indexed by Google yet

  • It was never submitted to Google Search Console

  • Pages are missing basic SEO elements — titles, meta descriptions, headings

  • The site is slow to load or isn't mobile-friendly

  • There's little to no content that actually matches what people are searching for

How long does it take for a new site to show up on Google?

Usually a few days to a few weeks once the site is indexed, though ranking well for competitive terms takes longer. Submitting your sitemap through Google Search Console speeds up discovery — it's one of the first things that should be set up when a site goes live.

Does my website need to be "optimised for SEO" specifically?

Yes, at least at a basic level. That means proper page titles, meta descriptions, a clear heading structure, and a site that loads quickly on mobile. It also means the site is set up with structured data — the technical markup that helps Google (and AI tools) understand what your business actually does, where you're based, and what people ask about you.

What Actually Fixes This

Technical SEO — the setup work behind the scenes — matters more than most business owners expect. Every site we build ships with Search Console and analytics connected, along with structured data for local business information, so it's discoverable from day one rather than something bolted on months later. If your current site is missing this, it's usually a fixable gap, not a rebuild. It’s part of how Pool Dad went from word of mouth to 10x more calls.

What If the Website Is Already Set Up Correctly?

Then it's likely a content and local relevance problem rather than a technical one — worth reading our guide on local SEO to see whether your business actually needs that layer of optimisation. If you're not sure which applies to you, it's easier to have someone look at the site directly than to guess — get in touch via our Contact page.
